Students in this program explore parts of the brain and their functions through lectures, dissection, and the study of models. In academic this program, you will learn about the three major components of neuroscience; neurobiology and neurochemistry, the human neural systems, and higher order processes and functions.
Students will explore parts of the brain and their functions through lectures, dissection, and study of models. Case studies are used to bring the material to life as real-life stories illustrate the effects on behavior and sensory perception of individuals with missing or destroyed brain regions. Neuroimaging techniques from EEG to FMRI and PET/SPECT are covered that provide a window into the brain enabling physicians and scientists to visualize brain activity and track states of consciousness. This pre-college program culminates in individual research papers and presentations. This academic program is great for gifted teens who love the brain and medicine.

'I found the neuroscience program to be intriguing, fascinating and definitely worth every minute. One thing about this program that made it so engaging was the teacher. Mr. Hoe was exciting and interesting to listen to and he definitely made these three weeks an enjoyable experience.'
'The neuroscience program covered the basics of brain anatomy, as well as the somatosensory system and neurological disorders. Mr. Hoe was engaging and open to answering our questions. I enjoyed our field trips to the Boston Children’s Hospital and the VA Hospital because they gave insight into different neuroscience fields.'
'Neuroscience was already an interesting topic to me but taking the neuroscience course in the program interested me more. It was the perfect pace and Mr. Hoe explained different concepts very well. Usually I don’t retain knowledge from HS courses(long term) but because what we learned was made interesting and hands-on, I will be able to use this knowledge in the future for many things. '
'Mr. Hoe is a wonderful teacher. I’m glad I chose the neuroscience program because I was able to have Mr. Hoe’s assistance on my independent project and to learn many new and exciting things about the brain. He is not only a great teacher, but also a very funny person.'
"I loved both the program and teacher. The program was packed with content, yet still paced well, and the labs/field trips were interactive and educational. Mr. Hoe is also one of the best teachers I’ve ever had and the mix of education and humor in his teaching style made is so much better."
"I had a great experience with the neuroscience aspect of this program, as well as the teacher. He was informative, taught well and was approachable with any question possible. I think that I learned so much thanks to the way the course was designed, with practicals, a research project, and lectures all combined."
"Neuroscience was a really great experience and I learned a lot these past three weeks. Mr. Hoe was very informative, engaging and respectful. The field trips made the program even better because we got to see what we had learned in the classroom in real life."
“I enjoyed learning about many different topics and gaining a wide breath of the many areas of neuroscience. We went into depth about many different topics that are very relevant to the research being done in the real world, which was very interesting to learn."
“The program helped me gain a deeper understanding of the essential components of Neuroscience. I enjoyed it because the morning lectures were packed with useful information and the evening labs allowed me to apply what I learned. The teacher was really knowledgeable of the subject and can instill a love of learning.”
“The program has been an amazing experience! The teacher, Jim Bohnslav has been an influential, and inspirational figure. He has inspired me to definitely go into Neurology... The program itself is great but Jim takes it to a whole other level! The program was very interactive and the information was concise and meaningful. I learned a lot here that I would find nowhere else. It has been a great learning experience and enjoyed it greatly.”
