    Overview

Students will employ principles of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science while designing and assembling robotic vehicles and machines. Students' designs will be sophisticated enough to pass challenges that students assign to them, such as reacting to sound or finding and retrieving objects.

Engineering: Electronics & Robotics gives students an overview of multiple elements of engineering including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science.

Students will have the opportunity to design and assemble robotic vehicles and write computer code to operate them.

Students will be challenged creatively as they design obstacles and tasks for their robots to interact with. This pre-college program culminates in individual research papers and presentations. This program is great for gifted teens who love tech and robotics.

    • "The program was very hands-on and engaging. The teachers were always there to help us when we needed it. We were encouraged to try things on our own and allowed us to explore our problem-solving abilities. I liked how we were given space to figure out our robots but still were offered help."

    • "I liked the program because it opened the door to robotics, an intimidating field. The class/teachers were very flexible, and we had a lot of freedom to take our projects in new directions. I liked how the first week was an introduction to how things worked, the second was using the resources for a more structured goal and the third was to apply what we learned."

    • "This program went much more in-depth with all the topics and as a result helped me build a strong understanding of electronics and robotics."

    • "The first week we worked on building circuits, they explained it to us and then gave us a few days to experiment. The second week we were taught how to code and then we started on our projects. It was very fun. We always had the opportunity to figure things out by ourselves. If we needed help all of the teachers were accessible and helpful."

    • 'I thought this class would be like school when we started but I was mistaken. The program ended up being very free with our teacher Diane encouraging creative thinking and logical ways to execute them. I liked how the program let us set our own goals for success.'
