This action packed one week marine biology precollege program will provide students with foundational knowledge of the biology and ecology of marine ecosystems, with a specific focus on the methods that scientists use to study marine habitats.
Inside the classroom some of the activities include, learning how to conduct field research and observing the classroom aquarium. Last year, students conducted water quality research, observed tide pools and field research at a Marine Science Center, and observed sand samples at high and low tide.

'I really enjoyed going and collecting data at Nahant and the salt marsh. It was really cool to go into the ‘field’ and actually collect data. In class, we did small activities such as taking the organisms out of the tank, algae pressing and slide shows.'
'The program was fast paced and enjoyable..I enjoyed checking the tank, and learning about what being a marine biologist entails. All good things.'
'The teachers were very informative and kind. Marine biology was so fun and the field trips were amazing. We got to learn how to manage the aquarium and test the quality of the water on field trips. There are so many interesting aquatic life to observe. I liked how we got to touch some of the creatures. Steve was not boring and he taught us a lot about aquatic life.'
'The program was great and I learned a lot about animals, plants and got an insight to a career in marine biology. Steve was super awesome as a teacher and made everything interesting and made it so I really wanted to pay attention.'
"Our program was Marine Biology and we went on two fun field trips this week and I learned a lot in the classroom too. Mr. Smith was a really cool teacher too."
"Mr. Smith is a great teacher, he’s really kind and funny. He makes learning really fun and understandable. I have learned so much about Marine Biology. Great program."
"I liked the material we covered. The field work was informative and interesting. The teacher is fun."
“The teacher was really nice and took the time to explain things to us when we didn’t understand and was very patient. I loved going on field trips and actually getting to do the things we learned during the lecture. I like how hands-on this class was."
“The program was very informative. It was a nice balance of powerpoints/taking notes, thought-inducing challenges, projects and field trips. I especially liked the marine habitats project and the open-tank where we could all see the organisms in the tank from up close."
“I really liked this program and the teacher. I liked how interactive this program was and how we would learn about something in class one day and then get to see it for ourselves the next day. I liked how enthusiastic and dedicated Steve was to this class and how he took the time to explain each topic while making the learning process and experience very enjoyable.”
