High school students will learn how to do play-by-play (PXP) broadcasting from experts, and get opportunities to practice the art and learn the craft of being on the mic telling the story of a live sporting event.
Taught by Jay Burnham, the “Voice of the UMass Minutemen” and award-winning broadcast journalist and professor Greeley Kyle, this class will break down the building blocks of prep work, notes and understanding your game.
Students will learn how to best use the medium they’re broadcasting through. On top of that students will get to craft biographies of players, create their own broadcast board and learn how to keep the flow going on their broadcast.
Students will have ample opportunities to practice PXP broadcasting and have their work professionally critiqued to prepare them for the live sporting event.
As the culmination of the experience, students will get to attend a live local sporting event and record their live PXP call on video.
