The University of Massachusetts Amherst College of Engineering is nationally recognized and stocked with award-winning faculty and brilliant undergraduate and graduate students who regularly discover inventions and receive patents for their research.
UMass Amherst’s College of Engineering is ranked among the best engineering programs in the country by US News and World Report, topping all public engineering schools in New England. It is well-funded, with an extramural research of $58.9 million and seven national research centers, including the U.S. Department of the Interior-funded Northeast Climate Science Center. The college offers substantial student aid from dozens of endowed funds and annual scholarships. Each year, the college awards approximately 300 scholarships averaging $1,500 each to sophomore, junior, and senior engineering undergraduates.
The college receives high marks from students seeking career placement. Six months after graduating, 93% of 2018 College of Engineers graduates said they had found a job in their careers. A prestigious group of faculty -- 37 have won the National Science Foundation’s top award for early-career research and education leaders -- provide hands-on, experiential educational opportunities.
Students have access to robust career development center and 15 professional and honor societies, along with an active chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and one of the oldest Multicultural Engineering Programs in the country.
Enrollment in 2018-2019 was 2,250 for undergraduate, 300 for master’s candidates and 310 for doctoral candidates. Incoming students that year had a 4.02 mean weighted GPA and 1290-1400 SAT mid 50% range score.
