Program description:
Rigorous application of design and analysis principles to biological systems has yielded medical breakthroughs with such significance that they call into question some of our fundamental assumptions about life as we know it. From human lifespan to gene editing to growing synthetic organs, technological advances have opened the door to a reimagining of what may be possible in our living world. Our only limitation now is our capacity to innovate, test, and scale the best ideas.
In Biomedical Engineering, innovation starts with a tour of current biomedical research and fundamentals. By investigating current medical limitations and known challenges, and dealing with the biological realities that underlie them, design and test biomedical prototypes for laboratory application in real, human-like specimens such as cats and pigs. Forecast your idea’s potential contribution to the current practice of medicine and get feedback on implementation from leading biomedical engineers. Think like a biomedical innovator and decide among various options for sharing your technology such as: launching a biomedical start-up, pioneering a new drug, or conducting clinic research.
