Medicine Courses Offered:
Becoming a Surgeon: Skills, Specialties, and Diseases
Have you always been fascinated by how surgeons save lives? Is it your dream to dive into the world of surgery? This is a course for people who love the challenge of diagnosing a disease and treating it through surgery. Study diseases of the abdomen and create your own model of the major organs and vascular structures. Learn about emerging technologies, such as robotics and digital scanning. Discover the jobs of an OR team and hear from specialists like gynecologists, radiologists, and trauma surgeons.
Medicine: An Inside Look at Treating Patients
Do you dream of a future in medicine? Are you interested in treating patients and improving their lives? In this course, you’ll get an inside look at the patient journey, understand the various roles of a healthcare team, and explore treatment plans for three cases: a kidney transplant, vascular disease, and cancer. Hear from physician specialists in each discipline, as well as from team members who collaborate on treatment. Learn the differences between complementary and integrative medicine techniques, and finally design a healthcare team for a patient scenario.
Medical Research: Clinical Trials Resulting in Medical Discoveries
Every vaccine, drug, and treatment used in medicine is the result of evidence-based research. For a cancer therapy to succeed, medical researchers have to ask a question. Will it work? In this course you will learn the process researchers use to formulate, conduct, and evaluate the evidence they gather. You will be tasked with developing your own study using professional methods.
Psychology: How the Brain Influences Behavior
How can social media cause you stress? What impacts can society have on sexuality? Do you feel manipulated by popular culture? How do drugs affect the brain? This course addresses these and other topics like brain injuries, learning disabilities, the psychology of product and web design, and how we process our media environment.
All course options, whether 1, 2, or 4 weeks, have the identical educational content, learning materials, and number of assignments. The difference in length of course is due to time of year (not amount of instruction). We know the school year keeps you busy, so we’ve made the course longer during that time so that you can get assignments done.
Fees: $1495 for all programs.
