Spike Lee and Lulu Wang continue celebrating this craft. Micro filmmakers are scrappy, authentic storytellers who see narratives everywhere. This summer, take command of your storytelling journey from screenplay blueprint to final cut. Craft your micro masterpiece with new friends and potentially uncover your creative calling.

    The Micro Filmmaking Workshop combines lectures, demos, screenings, and hands-on activities to immerse you in visual storytelling. yourself in story telling culminating in creating your micro short film. You will: Create an indie micro short to possibly add to your creative portfolio. Throw your audience for a loop with a good narrative twist or filmmaking technique. Watch micro shorts and discuss the pros and cons of the filmmaker's choices. Learn how to break down a scene and streamline your shot list for coverage Collaborate with fellow filmmakers on fun writing and filmmaking exercises that will prompt you to make bold choices for your micro-short. Think outside the box with Stony Brook University as your backdrop. Screen your work, give thoughtful feedback to other artists, and share your craft with an audience. Life On Campus Outside of class, you will enjoy social activities, develop lasting friendships, and get a taste of college life on campus.

    Cost and Session Information

    To be accepted into this program, you must be a rising junior or senior in good academic standing. For 2025, this program is open only to US residents between the ages of 15 and 17. This course is offered during Session 4: July 27 - August 1 Program Cost: $2,250 ($50 application fee) A limited number of scholarships are available to offset the program costs for students with demonstrated need. The Scholarships are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Application Deadlines: Application Opens: December 13, 2024 Early Action*: March 7, 2025 Application Closes: May 30, 2025 *Apply by the early action deadline and receive a $100 discount on the program fee.
