Stony Brook University’s Pre-College Summer Program is a week-long residential learning experience where ambitious high school students can ignite their academic passions and experience life at a top-tier research university. The program offers non-credit courses in dynamic subject areas such as pre-dentistry, health professions, machine learning, journalism, and more.
Stony Brook University Pre-College Summer program is designed for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students will live on campus and choose from a variety of subject areas.
- Dental Sciences — Gain hands-on experience in Stony Brook’s advanced preclinical laboratory, watch demonstrations in the state-of-the-art Center for Implant and Dental Technology (CIDT), and discover what it’s like to be a dental student.
- Health Professions — In this experiential program, students will learn from nationally known experts about the vast array of careers in healthcare. Students will learn from and explore pathways to many rewarding careers in health (Physician Assistant, Radiation Therapy, Speech Therapy, Athletic Training, and many more!) Discover what it takes to become a successful member of an interprofessional healthcare team.
- Machine Learning — Students will enter the exciting world of artificial intelligence and be introduced to the basics of self-driving concepts, machine learning algorithms, neural network architecture, and data analysis techniques.
- Multimedia Journalism — Working with award-winning Stony Brook faculty members, students will learn what it takes to be a multimedia journalist. They will learn how to conduct interviews, write stories and scripts, as well as shoot photos and videos.
Life On Campus
Outside of class, students will enjoy social activities, develop lasting friendships, and get a taste of college life on campus.
The cost of the one-week program is $2,200 and there is an application fee of $45. This fee includes the course, learning materials, social programs, residence hall access, and all meals. Apply by April 1 and receive $100 off the program cost.
