Theatre, like many arts, depends on technology—and technology in turn is enriched by the arts. This course examines how theatre artists are incorporating technological innovations, such as artificial intelligence, into their work to create digitally conscious theatre.
Applications for Summer 2026 open on November 15 and close on March 15.
Theatre artists around the world are adopting creative ways to respond to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and the possibilities (and challenges) of these platforms. This course will allow students to explore some of these creative strategies for themselves. From AI-generated scripts to a battle of wits with an AI platform, students will gain insight into creating theatre that is digitally conscious. Over the two-week period of this course, students will create a script, design a world for that script, and devise a performance with each other that will be showcased to the community.
Through the exploration of basic facets of theatre, such as acting, writing, and stage design, students will see how technology plays an increasing role in each of these areas.
