Georgetown's Economics Policy Academy provides an interdisciplinary exploration of the complex role played by states and other governing entities in relation to markets, through the lens of both economics and political science.

You'll study theoretical concepts from both fields and practice applying them to real-world problems—both in the U.S. and abroad—to assess the situations and evaluate policy solutions. By the end of the program, you'll have a deeper understanding of not only the key philosophical and theoretical concepts behind economic policy which affect all facets of our life, such as price interventions and regulations, but also the main issues the U.S. economy faces today.

As a student in the Economics Policy Academy, you'll spend your time engaged in a combination of class sessions, field trips, hands-on workshops, group discussions, and extracurricular activities. Throughout the course of the program, you'll have the opportunity to explore the following subject areas:

    • Globalization
    • Basic microeconomics
    • Poverty and inequality
    • The welfare state
    • Development economics
    • International negotiations and trade policy
    • Development and institutional change
    • Behavioral economics and public policy
    • Fiscal and monetary policy in the U.S.
    • Foreign aid
    • The economics of conflict
