    Overview

    Great leaders learn from history. In the past at JrNYLC, middle school students have spent six days in and around the nation's capital, experiencing the power of democracy among the monuments, were inspired by exemplary stories of courage, collaborated to discover solutions to issues they have faced, and spent a night in a museum.     Program Highlights

    During JrNYLC, Washington, DC has served as a living classroom for students while they developed important leadership skills and enjoyed the educational experience of a lifetime. With a focus on influential figures from American history and social advocacy, the program packed with fun and engaging site experiences as well as hands-on activities that brings the concepts and skills of effective leadership to life.

    Past Students who attended JrNYLC have:

    Reflected on the responsibility of public service in an exclusive Capitol Hill Experience (current 7th & 8th grade students only)

    Studied leadership at Mount Vernon, the home of our first President George Washington.    (current 5th & 6th grade students only)

    Enjoyed a sleepover at the Maryland Science Center

    Heard from an inspirational speaker

    Created an action-oriented organization to inspire positive change

    Participated in hands-on leadership-oriented simulations

    Visited the National Museum of American History. Visited monuments and memorials, such as Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial.
