    Overview

The Peabody Preparatory of The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore’s premier community school for the performing arts, offers summer programs in music and dance for students of all backgrounds and experience levels. With a legacy of excellence spanning over a century, Peabody provides high-level instruction, creative exploration, and performance opportunities led by expert faculty, both online and at our downtown Baltimore campus.

Baltimore BeatLab, offered in both in-person and online formats, is a one-week summer experience for students ready to create, collaborate, and explore the art of music production. Designed for tech-savvy musicians ages 11–18, the program welcomes all experience levels and is led by industry professionals using cutting-edge Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).

In Person: Held at Peabody’s downtown Baltimore campus, the in-person program is open to beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. Participants explore beatmaking, mixing, recording, and creative mindfulness while producing music across hip-hop, indie, electronic, and club styles. The week culminates in a live showcase of original work.

Online: The online format is designed for intermediate and advanced students with prior DAW experience. Participants deepen their production skills, refine their sound, and collaborate virtually with peers. The final day features a virtual listening session where students share and celebrate their original work.

Whether you’re looping for the first time or building full tracks, Baltimore BeatLab is a launchpad for creative expression and digital music mastery. Tuition is $500 (in person) or $349 (online). Students may bring their own gear or use provided tools.
