    Overview

From Christopher Nolan to Sophia Coppola to Taika Waititi - legendary filmmakers started with micro shorts, discovering their artistic path. Spike Lee and Lulu Wang continue celebrating this craft. Micro filmmakers are scrappy, authentic storytellers who see narratives everywhere. Take command of your storytelling journey from screenplay blueprint to final cut, crafting your micro masterpiece with new friends.

The Micro Filmmaking Workshop combines lectures, demos, screenings, and hands-on activities to immerse you in visual storytelling, culminating in creating your micro short film. You will:

    • Create an indie micro short to possibly add to your creative portfolio.
    • Throw your audience for a loop with a good narrative twist or filmmaking technique.
    • Watch micro shorts and discuss the pros and cons of the filmmaker's choices.
    • Learn how to break down a scene and streamline your shot list for coverage.
    • Collaborate with fellow filmmakers on fun writing and filmmaking exercises that will prompt you to make bold choices for your micro-short.
    • Think outside the box with Stony Brook University as your backdrop.
    • Screen your work, give thoughtful feedback to other artists, and share your craft with an audience.

On campus, outside of class, you will enjoy social activities, develop lasting friendships, and get a taste of college life.
