If you are interested in nuclear engineering, this one-week summer program will introduce you to the fascinating world of nuclear power and the outstanding opportunities in nuclear engineering.
Campers interested in continued safe and reliable nuclear energy production, nuclear engineering, use of radiation for biomedical research and medical imaging, how to operate a nuclear reactor, or how nuclear-powered US Navy submarines and aircraft carriers protect US interests at sea, will embrace this unique, hands-on summer program that was designed to introduce them to the fascinating world of nuclear power and the unique opportunities in the world of nuclear engineering.
Topics include:
- Nuclear energy
- Radiation detection and applications
- Nuclear materials
- Nuclear security
- Nuclear waste management
- Industrial plasmas, etc.
Each day of the one-week course is a combination of interactive lectures, small group projects, and hands-on experiments.
Summer camp leaders demonstrate concepts ranging from radiation detection to reactor physics, where campers are exposed to the topics and materials they will likely study in nuclear engineering in a fun, engaging, and interactive manner.
Enjoy experimental hands-on and/or computational research using math, physics, and computer skills:
- Natural Radioactivity
- Nuclear Forensics
- Reactor Operations
- Shielding
Camp Tours & Nuclear Presentations:
- Phelps Health Radiology & Oncology Departments
- Missouri S&T's Research & Training Reactor
- Ameren UE's Callaway Nuclear Power Plant
- US Navy
This camp is open to graduating seniors. Registration fee includes all meals, housing, and camp materials.
