The One-Week Immersion Program at Columbia University is open to students entering grades 9 through 12 and freshman year of college. It combines academic rigor and instructional excellence with lively extracurricular offerings and careful supervision and support.
Participants select one curricular option for an in-depth examination of a specific subject area. Classes meet twice each day for two-hour sessions. Students learn by engaging directly with the subject matter through activities such as class discussions, labs, debates, simulations, workshops, assigned readings, and individual and group projects.
Outside of class, students participate in a variety of extracurricular and co-curricular activities, including college preparedness programming, community outreach and awareness activities, and special lectures on various topics of interest. Program participants also eat together every afternoon in the campus café (lunch is provided).
Through a combination of academic immersion and engaging extracurricular activities, students are allowed to explore their passions and hone skills that will help them succeed in college and beyond.
