KABOOM! is the national nonprofit that unites with communities to build kid-designed playspaces that can spark joy and foster a sense of belonging for the kids who are often denied opportunities to thrive. Our mission: End playspace inequity for good.
Preparing to Volunteer with KABOOM!
Build Day is an exciting community day where we come together and see an empty space become a place of magic for kids to enjoy. In preparation for your volunteer day, here are a few frequently asked questions.
How do I volunteer?
All of our playgrounds are community-built, meaning groups of residents are active throughout the entire process from selecting the design of the playground through the Build Day! This group takes the lead in recruiting volunteers and other key tasks that help bring the playground to life. If you have a large group of volunteers you would like to engage, please visit our website where you can contact us.
Do volunteers need any special skills or a certain level of physical capacity?
No, we have volunteer opportunities for everyone!
What does a typical build day look like?
Each of our builds is unique so the schedules can vary! Typically, the day starts at about 8:30 AM. The fun work of building the playground lasts through the day until around 4 PM. Snacks and meals are provided. We stay true to our commitment to the community to build their playspace, so we do work rain or shine as long as the conditions are safe!
What do volunteers need to bring/wear for Build Day?
We recommend that volunteers dress in comfortable weather-appropriate clothing that they do not mind getting dirty. Close-toe shoes are required.
