    Rockets and Robotics STEAM Camp

The Rockets and Robotics STEAM Camp at Brandon Hall School is a challenging but FUN 3-week program where students will learn the many aspects of rocket and robot design.

The first week of camp will be Rocket Week. During this portion of the camp, students will learn the technical details of rocket building and they will design multiple rockets that will be launched at the end of the week. Launch day is pretty exciting! We will visit the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL to see replicas of the rockets used by the United States for the purposes of space travel.

Week two will focus on robotics. Students will be learning how to design, build and code competition robots for the VEX robotics league. Students will be working hands-on with state of the art technology to develop a robot that can accomplish simple tasks to very difficult tasks. This camp will be challenging young engineers to problem-solve and find alternative options to overcome design flaws. We will visit the TELLUS science museum to see some examples of mechanical innovation exhibits they have on display. While we are there, we will see the planetarium movie they have that features rockets and space travel.

Then in week three, we combine rockets and robotics to design mobile launching platforms with robot recovery vehicles to retrieve the spent rockets. The ideas and designs that students come up with are truly amazing and creative. The students will be creating video presentations focussing on their designs for both rockets and robotics throughout the entirety of the camp to share on the last day.
