    Overview

SMYSP is an academic enrichment program for students from first generation and low-income high school juniors. Students engage in a hospital internship, faculty lectures, interactive workshops, Stanford Medicine networking events, anatomy lab and lecture, community building, and a public health research project. During the program and beyond, participants are mentored by faculty, health professionals, and college students on preparing for college and navigating careers in medicine.

The Stanford Medical Youth Science Program is a five-week immersive enrichment program focused on science and medicine that is open to low-income, first-generation high school juniors who live in Northern California.

When students attend the Stanford Medical Youth Science Program, not only do they learn and develop as a student, but they are mentored and empowered to begin their path to college and medical careers. We build a cohort of passionate, like-minded peers, who will become the next generation of health leaders.

SMYSP is a tuition-free program. We rely on donations to increase opportunity and access for aspiring first generation college students.

Our 2025 program will be held on the Stanford campus from June 23 to July 25, 2025. SMYSP is a full-time weekly summer program. Students will be expected to travel to Stanford’s main campus Monday through Friday for the duration of the program. Our team of dedicated program staff, including program counselors and instructors, will work together to create a supportive, enriching, and exciting summer experience with SMYSP. Our counselors will plan a variety of fun team building exercises throughout the week. Please note a mandatory in-person program orientation will be held Friday, June 20th, 2025. Applicants accepted into the program will receive a detailed program schedule.

SMYSP will accept 24 students for the 2025 summer program. Applications will be reviewed by our admissions team and each application is evaluated holistically. Admissions decisions are released in early May.

Our 2025 program application will open mid-December, 2025. Please check our website for updates and application links.
