    Overview

ONE Lab, the educational arm of award-winning design firm Terreform ONE, offers in-person pre-college courses that equip students with the knowledge and skills to build green futures. Each session consists of a design studio, discussion, lectures, workshops, worksite tours, and guidance on advanced study and potential careers in environmental design.

    Architecture and the Environment

Using New York City as a laboratory, your investigations will be based on one illuminating hypothesis: in the future, buildings will come to be self-sufficient in their critical necessities. You will meet with architects, engineers, ecologists, and inventors, and explore how architecture is adapting to address these changes. You will imagine and present a small portfolio of building sketches inspired by everything you’ve learned.

    Design for Future Cities

This class will introduce you to the concept of urbaneers: multi-disciplinary students and professionals who work to fulfill the promise inherent in the phrase “future cities,” by learning about and working with both the fundamentals and new paradigms of urban design. You’ll learn about the history of the field and new practices (such as working with biomaterials); meet with design visionaries & entrepreneurs; visit local sites of interest; and envision, model and write about your own version of a future city.
