Breakwater is a trusted leader in guiding transformative, therapeutic, and custom wilderness journeys. Our teen trips foster meaningful growth—where nature, challenge, and connection come together. Teens unplug from distractions and step into wild spaces with peers to build teamwork, resilience, and self-confidence. These are more than trips—they’re launchpads for adaptability, strength, and friendships that last well beyond summer.
Who are these trips for? Our summer teen expeditions are designed for youth ages 13–17 who are ready to unplug, explore, and grow. Whether your teen is outgoing or more reserved, experienced in the outdoors or brand new to adventure—our programming meets them where they are and helps them thrive.
What happens on a Breakwater trip? Teens join a small group of peers and experienced, professional guides for a fully supported multi-day camping expedition. Activities vary by itinerary and include canoeing, sea kayaking, canyoneering, and backpacking or hiking. Each trip is built to encourage confidence, build resilience, and develop communication and teamwork skills—all while having an unforgettable time in the wilderness.
Where do the trips take place? We run three distinct summer expeditions in different regions of the western U.S.:
Utah: Paddling Labyrinth Canyon and canyoneering in slot canyons
Montana: Backpacking and wildlife immersion in Yellowstone National Park
Washington: Sea kayaking and camping among the islands of the Pacific Northwest
When do trips run? Each trip is scheduled during the summer months of June through August, ranging from 7–14 days depending on location. Teens can join one or more expeditions throughout the season.
How does it work? We take care of all logistics—from gear and meals to permits and transportation during the trip. Our guides are trained in wilderness medicine, group facilitation, and youth development. We maintain a low staff-to-student ratio to ensure personalized attention, strong group dynamics, and safety at every step.
