We foster a diverse, globally-aware school culture and curriculum. Students learn in a safe, courteous community, so theres space to explore new ideas fearlessly. Our college-preparatory program gives every student a strong academic foundation, but we pursue more than just intellectual excellence. We also pursue strength of character. Students learn communication, conflict resolution, and mutual respect. So every student graduates not simply intelligent, but self-assured and well-equipped for the road ahead. We teach students to think critically, research independently, and utilize their natural talents. Hands-on learning and adventures beyond the classroomin art and science rooms, in the city of Philadelphia, and beyondmake learning an active, engaging experience. Our mission is to cultivate curiosity and to prepare every student successfully for an engaging and fulfilling life.
Our Upper School curriculum focuses on mastery of core academic subjects, with an emphasis on research skills, writing, and public speaking. Over four years, we challenge students with increasing levels of independence, critical thinking, and leadership.
The first two years of Upper School build a strong foundation. Students explore diverse subjects and learn to think from multiple perspectives. Through distinctive programs such as InterSession and Interdisciplinary Sequence, students explore culture through lenses of literature, history, philosophy, religion, and art.
In the final two years of Upper School, students gain independence and put theory into practice. Community service projects, internships, electives, and independent study opportunities help students pursue their interests and become active citizens of the wider world.
