    Overview

The Student Advisory Board on Education is a 4-day conference where students develop proposals on issues in the CA state education system. It is put on by the California Association of Student Councils (CASC) - A student-led nonprofit founded by the CA Department of Education in 1947 that connects students to education policy.

Students will work in teams to find a solution and convert it into an action plan that will be presented to the state Board of Education. Additionally, delegates vote for the next state Student Board Member on the California Board of Education. Scholarships are available, and delegates are chosen through an application process. This year's SABE conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Sacramento Downtown from November 3rd - 6th, 2025. Here are a few of the many student written proposals that have been signed into law during SABE: AB-367 (Garcia, 2021) requiring all schools to provide free menstrual products for grades 6-12 in restrooms; SB-1445 (Cortese, 2024) allowing students to make restorative justice recommendations in expulsion hearings; SB-532 (Leyva, 2015) mandating district boards to appoint a student board member when petitioned for by the student body.
