Celebrating 90 years of excellence in fashion education, The School of Fashion Design is the only educational institution in New England dedicated exclusively to the study of fashion design. SFD provides students with a solid foundation in apparel design and construction, and the skills required for a successful career in fashion.
Our technical Certificate in Fashion Design program, delivered in our friendly and welcoming studios, provides experiential classes taught by masters in the field of fashion design. Students may take courses toward the Certificate or on a class-by-class basis to fill professional education interests. For creatives and textile arts enthusiasts, SFD also offers year-round Workshops in various textile arts such as weaving, lace making, fabric dying, embroidery, millinery, upcycling, and more.
As an SFD student, you will join a diverse community of emerging and established designers. Our studios are filled with recent high school graduates, students from area colleges enriching their education with our fashion courses or workshops, and advanced working professionals embarking on a new career path.
SFD faculty and students are also active partners in our local community, collaborating regularly with local organizations and businesses through internships, exhibitions, field trips, and special events. Our reputation for excellence is on display each time our students show their work outside the classroom at fashion shows and exhibit opportunities available to our students throughout the year.
With an SFD Certificate in Fashion Design, our esteemed group of alumni have enjoyed fashion careers with Adidas, Burton, Coldwater Creek, J. Jill, L’Elite Bridal, New Balance, PUMA, Ralph Lauren, Reebok, Talbots, Timberland, TJX Companies, and more. Several alumni are also designers and costumers for stage and screen, including Cirque du Soleil, while others have found success launching their own independent labels.
