Rock Climbing Summer Programs
Overcoming physical and mental challenges are part of any rock climbing experience, and pre-college students seeking adventure can hone their abilities on both fronts by enrolling in Rock Climbing Summer Programs. Leadership skills are also at the forefront of these programs, often hosted by specialized organizations for several days or weeks at a time. Participants travel to mountainous regions or learn climbing skills at indoor rock climbing walls. Expert instructors teach fundamentals like tying knots, belaying, and placing climbing protection, and move into more advanced techniques such as lead climbing and vertical rescue. Additional education includes rock climbing history, geology, geography and cultural studies. These problems sometimes combine rock climbing experience with other outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, canoeing, rafting and observation and study of ecology and conservation.
