    Overview

School for Creative Arts (SCA) is the future home of Cornish’s extension program, including pre-collegeSummer@Cornish, year-round studio classes, as well as community and corporate partnerships. Programs begin this fall and will fully launch in September 2023.

    Our Approach

We believe that creative learning is a balance of technical skill development in one core discipline while continuing to develop creative expression through multiple artistic modalities. The 21st century artist must be able to work in cross-discipline environments which often involve a creative mix of music, drama, drawing, film, and storytelling. Additionally, real-world problem-solving through the arts is an ever-growing area for careers across technology, health, education, and the formal arts industries. Summer@Cornish supports youth to develop fine art techniques, design-thinking skills, and social and emotional insights.

Whether it is a 4-week, all-day program with a morning foundation course and 2 electives weekly, or just one elective two afternoons a week, our program helps teens enter at a point that is right for them. A sample schedule is indicated below:

    9-12 M-F Film Foundation

12-1 PM Lunch in Cornish Cafe

    1-4 M/W Music Elective

    1-4 T-Th Art Elective

    Testimonials(4)

    • My family of 3 generations has taken classes at Cornish, our lives are richer for the experiences.

      - Music Student - August 1, 2017
    • It was absolutely amazing! We learned about every aspect of the film industry and the basics in each area: lighting, camera work, editing, screenwriting, etc..

      - Film Student - August 1, 2018
    • The instructors were amazing! It taught me most of what I know about the college application process as well as the life of a college student.

      - Art and Design Student - July 1, 2018
    • I loved the program. When I went in I knew almost nothing about film and the program did an excellent job preparing me for other projects I wanted to work on. Summer at Cornish gave me insight on what art education could be like and inspired the idea of pursuing film.

      - Film Student - October 10, 2018
