Lavner Summer Camps: Graphic Design Camp
Ages 10 to 14
At the Graphic Design Camp, design and create a brand for a business!
Graphic designers are visual storytellers whose ultimate goal is to sell a product or an idea through effective visual communication. Using Adobe ® Photoshop and Illustrator, campers learn to complement their creativity with the proper technical skills to produce designs that communicate messages and leave lasting visual impressions. Campers learn about typography, pure design elements like colors, shapes, and images, design skills to organize and convey information, strengthen conceptual skills, and produce clean and effective work product.
During the week, campers work in groups to develop and design a brand for a business of their choice. Campers may choose any business, where some examples include (but are not limited to): a gym, clothing store, restaurant, professional sports team, movie theatre, video game design company, and much more. Once the business is selected, campers then create designs for logos, business cards, posters, signs, brochures, t-shirts, and other items marketing their business. Campers also learn about the value of good project management, "soft" and "hard" deadlines and the basic psychology of grabbing the attention and creating positive responses from consumers.
As an additional focus on financial literacy, each group will be given a budget of $75,000 fantasy dollars to use on a marketing plan for their business. Campers will create a marketing plan and budget for their business and will present to the entire camp on Friday. Marketing plans can include traditional print marketing, internet marketing, social media, guerrilla marketing, promotional events, and other creative and cost effective tactics that will help them maximize their ROI.
Campers also present their final design projects on Friday afternoon to the entire camp. Campers take home a CD as a portfolio of their design work and hard copies of their business cards.
Campers are grouped based upon age and experience. Campers may register for one week or multiple weeks, as projects vary from week to week.
All Campers Receive: Lavner Camps t-shirt, Lavner Camps car magnet, CD containing a portfolio of camper work hard copies of individualized business cards!
