Founded in 1958, HOBY inspires and develops our global community of youth to a life dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation. Our leadership development programs empower high school students to become dynamic leaders and lead lasting change in their communities.
HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving more than 10,000 local and international high school students. HOBY programs allow students to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and cultural experiences.
State Leadership Seminar for High School Sophomores
HOBY’s flagship program, the State Leadership Seminar (LS), is designed to help high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, and community. During the seminar, you will engage in fun, interactive activities, learn about yourself; your role in the world; and engage with like-minded students from your state while building lasting friendships and networks. After the three to four day HOBY experience, you will leave with the confidence and knowledge to lead and make a positive impact on others.
HOBY’s unique leadership curriculum empowers you to explore your leadership talents from three perspectives: personal leadership, group leadership, and leadership for society. First, you will learn about yourself and our personal leadership strengths. Using your newly discovered strengths, you will learn how to become an effective leader who leads groups into action. Finally, you will learn about your role in the greater community and how to make an impact by performing a large-scale service project with others.
Seventy-one State Leadership Seminars take place annually between April and June in every state. To register or learn more, go to https://www.hoby.org/programs/state-leadership-seminars/.
