Diablo Glass School offers a unique, creative and educational experience in Boston unlike anything your child has experienced before. We focus on safety and fun! Students can take summer camp classes, after school classes, classes credited by MassArt, private lessons or one-day workshops!

Option 1 Teen Vacation Week: Glassblowing & Fused Glass

Price per workshop: $650  Class size limit: 9Teens who are interested in working in a team atmosphere with a lot of physical activity will enjoy working in the glass blowing shop. Diablo’s experienced instructors will guide teens through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises to build their understanding of the medium. There is a three students to one instructor ratio in the hot shop to ensure safety and plenty of individual instruction. First, students will learn basic glass manipulation by creating a paperweight. They will move on to learn how to introduce air into the piece to create a bubble. From there, students can make glasses and small vases. In the afternoon students will move into the kiln forming studio. There they will assemble pieces of glass that they will heat in the kiln to create a fused piece of glass. Their first assignment will be to make some pendants. They will learn basic glass cutting techniques, along with kiln forming and color theory to create coasters and plates.

Option 2:   Teen Vacation Studios: Flameworking & Fused Glass

Price per workshop: $545  Class size Limit: 8   Flame working takes glass into a small and delicate world, teens interested in focusing on color and fine details will enjoy the flame studio. In this class, teens will learn how to make beautiful glass beads using a stationary bench torch. They will be working on a mandrel, using soft glass to build colorful glass pieces. After a discussion of studio set-up and safety, demonstrations will introduce students to the use of heat and gravity to shape molten glass. Techniques such as dot application, marvering, stringers, annealing and bead cleaning, will all be covered. In the afternoon students will move into the kiln forming studio. Here they will assemble pieces of glass that they will heat in the kiln to create a fused piece of glass. Their first assignment will be to make some pendants. They will learn basic glass cutting techniques, along with kiln forming and color theory to create coasters and plates.
