Canoe Island French Camp is a unique residential program located in Washington State focusing on French language and culture as well as outdoor and artistic activities. Canoe Island is coed for boys and girls ages 9 - 16.
Our campers enjoy traditional activities of summer camp such as kayaking, theatre, archery, sailing, marine biology, and photography, all on a private, 45-acre San Juan Island used exclusively by the camp.
The French camp’s innovative, low-pressure approach to French language instruction engages beginners and fluent Francophones alike. Counselors, many of whom are from France, share their culture, food, and history. Our camp aims to shape conscientious world citizens and promote cross-cultural understanding. French culture and cuisine are an equally important part of the program.
Our residential camp attracts curious children and engaged young adults. The technology-free environment allows campers to connect with nature, as well as the people around them. At only 45 campers per session, our island fosters a small, open-minded community of young people. Campers leave Canoe Island with increased self-reliance, memories of new experiences, and new friends; many campers return year after year.
Surrounded by sparkling blue water of Puget Sound, Canoe Island French Camp is waiting for you to explore its mile of shoreline, mossy promontories, and secluded beaches. Make a masque fantastique for a masquerade ball, bake a tarte aux pommes, rapelle down to the ocean's edge, kayak to an island beach or beachcomb along the shores.
