Overview
Pre-college students immerse themselves in Spanish, take ACT or SAT prep or enrichment courses, and soak up the culture and beauty of Spain’s Mediterranean shores during two, three or four weeks in the Barcelona Summer Program, hosted by American Collegiate Adventures and Barcelona International College.
A dynamic combination of education, culture and recreation, the American Collegiate Adventures’ Barcelona Summer Program features internationally respected faculty from Barcelona International College and a prime location close to both architectural attractions and the Mediterranean. Students in high school and soon to enter college choose a program of two, three or four weeks and stay in an upscale hotel in downtown Barcelona.
Students can receive academic credit for Spanish language courses for an extra fee and take part in volunteer service. Featuring a ratio of eight students per staff, ACA Barcelona offers SAT or ACT preparation courses as well as college elective courses. Study areas include Spanish Culture & Society, Architecture & Art History, Go Gourmet, Spanish Style Cooking, International Business & World Financial Markets, and Digital Photography.
A typical daily schedule includes courses in the morning and afternoon, breakfast, lunch and siesta, followed by afternoon activities and free time. The program also provides for dinner, evening activities and evening social time.
To ensure safety, American Collegiate Adventures houses staff on each floor of student residences and the building has trained staff at the front desk 24 hours per day. Cuisine is a centerpiece of the stay for students, with both American-style offerings and local delicacies available every day. Activities include observing historic and contemporary architecture, shopping at chic boutiques and looking at art by acclaimed artists such as Picasso and Dali. There is also a lively nightlife and many fitness options.
In addition to the multifaceted opportunities in Barcelona, ACA offers students trips of varying length to nearby locations such as the French Riviera, Universal’s Port Aventura Amusement Park and the ancient city of Girona. Students may also add-on a five-day excursion to the Greek Isles.
