    Overview

Driven by the goal of curing spinal cord injury–related paralysis and helping millions walk again, the Buoniconti family founded The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis in 1992. This nonprofit raises funds and awareness to support The Miami Project’s main objective: repairing and restoring function to the injured and diseased nervous system, thereby improving the quality of life for patients worldwide.

The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis was co-founded by Barth A. Green, M.D., world -renowned neurosurgeon, and Nick Buoniconti, NFL Hall of Fame linebacker after Nick’s son, Marc, sustained a spinal cord injury during a college football game. Research at The Miami Project has changed the landscape of knowledge and therapeutic strategies for spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.

Chapters of The Buoniconti Fund were established in an effort to enhance the research efforts of the scientists at The Miami Project.  Led by volunteer regional director(s), each Chapter is made up of its own committee members who donate their time and energy into garnering support for their local events. Committee members provide the grass roots efforts in their respective communities by spreading the message of The Miami Project, its ongoing research and its message of hope.
