The mission of SIRE is providing a community where horses help people with disabilities and challenges to live their best life.
The number one diagnosis we serve is autism. Although our riders’ ages range from three years to senior citizens, the majority of our riders are teens and young adults. Volunteers assist our riders in a variety of ways, both inside and outside the riding arena.
A Sidewalker's job is to maintain awareness of the rider and give physical support as needed. Leader's job is to maintain awareness and when appropriate control the horse. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to participate in lessons. Younger volunteers may participate in opportunities outside the arena with parental supervision.
SIRE participates in special events & competitions throughout the year, including the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and Special Olympics.
