The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center's mission is to educate people of all ages about the natural environment while preserving and enhancing the Arboretum as a sanctuary for native plants and wildlife. Teen volunteers help maintain trails, run educational classes, enhance habitats for local wildlife, and more!
Students ages 13-17 can earn community service hours through two summer programs: Teen Trail Team and Nature Rangers.
Teen Trail Team (Ages 13-17)
Work with the Conservation Team to maintain 155 acres of habitats and trails while learning about native ecology. Tasks include trail work, habitat restoration, and removing invasive plants. This hands-on, outdoor program provides up to 27 service hours.
Nature Rangers (Ages 13-17)
Assist with Summer Nature Camp, helping with activities like experiments, hikes, and games while gaining classroom management skills. Volunteers must commit to two full weeks (Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM) and attend an interview and orientation.
Teens 16+ can apply to volunteer year-round. Opportunities for ages 13+ are available only in summer (June-Aug).
Visit the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center website for more information on how to apply!
