You don’t need any experience to be a tutor, You will be trained!

“Every volunteer means one more student who can be served, so FLOC welcomes new tutors year-round.

As a tutor in the Neighborhood Tutoring Program, you’ll work one-on-one with a specific student each week. You’ll use research-proven curricula to help your student gain grade-level equivalency in reading or math. NTP takes a foundational approach to tutoring, which means that instead of helping a student on their current homework, we identify their actual skill level and help them to fill their knowledge gap. Because students have to demonstrate concept mastery before they can move on to the next step in the curriculum, you and your student can easily see the progress that s/he is making.

You don’t need any experience to be a tutor. You will be trained in the appropriate reading or math curricula, which will walk you step-by-step through what you need to do with your student each week. However, in order for us to be effective in helping students reach their own potential, we are looking for a few particular qualities from our tutors:

Able and willing to commit for the full school year or summerPatienceCreativity and flexibilityA sense of humor!Fluency in the English language (Volunteers who are not native speakers of American English may be asked to tutor only in our math curriculum.)At least 16 years old
