Dallas has one of the largest municipal parks systems in the nation with over 21,000 park land acres which encompass 380 parks, 13 lakes, 4,400 surface acres of water and 135 developed trail miles.

Volunteers are the heart of our department. They help keep our parks beautiful and our recreation centers humming with activity. They share their skills, contribute their time, and enhance our lives.

Over 2,500 volunteers contributed approximately 178,996 service hours during FY 2019-2020, valued at $4.5 million. Individuals and groups share their talents and expertise by participating in senior adult and after school programs, park beautification projects like “It’s My Park Day,” and numerous other daily activities and special events.

Find your perfect match - whether at a recreation center or park, a one-time event or on-going activity, with a group or individually - there are many ways to get involved.
