    Overview

From the novels that keep us reading into the night, to short stories that distill the best of writing into a snapshot, fiction takes many forms but is connected by craft elements: mood and tone, conflict and narrative arc, backstory and imagery, among others. Whether you are an aspiring novelist or flash fiction fan, Write the World's Fiction Writing Camps will allow you to explore fiction writing by engaging in activities designed to deepen your craft.

You will build writing skills and confidence through peer review and thoughtful instructor feedback. You will also read works written by teen and adult authors, celebrating the practice and purpose of reading/writing fiction in its many forms. You will leave camp with a finalized fiction piece (and many other draft works!) to share with others. Folks who are passionate about longer-form work may find our Novel Writing Camp an engaging extension of work done in Fiction Writing Camps.

Curriculum Summary: Participants of all skill levels will walk away with 10+ draft writings dedicated to craft techniques in the fiction genre, from dialogue to characterization, conflict to setting, figurative language to point of view, and more. Writers will work toward the creation of one finalized flash fiction story to share with peers, will receive and provide written and verbal peer review, and will benefit from individualized feedback from their instructors.

During workshop sessions, you’ll engage in interactive writing activities, connect with peers around the world, and work together to grow your writing skills. Between workshop sessions, you may be asked to work independently (and asynchronously) on writing prompts and activities, guided by peer and expert reviews, at your own pace, for approximately 1-2 hours, depending on your facilitator’s workshop plan. You will also receive individualized feedback that will strengthen your writing.
