    2024 course offerings:

EDSP220: Disability in Community: Access, Accommodation, and Adaptation

This course examines the concept of disability in a variety of community settings, including schools and universities, shared public spaces like parks, and people-serving enterprises like restaurants, hospitals, and shopping malls. Students will read classic and contemporary works in psychology, sociology and special education to better understand disability through historical, medical, social, and autobiographical lenses. Students will study Universal Design for Learning as a way to minimize barriers in educational, public, and personal spaces. Further disability awareness comes through a required service-learning component where students apply course content in a community organization that deals with disability.
