    One standout offering for advanced 10th and 11th graders, the Secondary Student Training Program (SSTP) provides a selective summer research opportunity. Students work directly with faculty mentors, gaining hands-on experience in their chosen academic or scientific field and preparing for future academic and career pursuits.

    High school students completing grades 9-12 can join the Summer Writing Online (SWO) program, a three-week creative writing experience led by esteemed University of Iowa faculty, graduates, and members of the Iowa Writers Workshop. This program allows students to develop their passion for writing in a supportive and inspiring online environment.

    The Blank Summer Institute (BSI), a residential program tailored for nominated 7th and 8th graders. Over the course of a week, students explore a diverse curriculum that includes engineering, field science, lab science, math problem solving, creative writing, graphic arts and design, performing arts, and visual arts. Participants experience structured classes, meals, and evening activities while living in university residence halls, fostering a sense of independence and community.
