    Overview

SYA Italy located in Viterbo, 64 miles northwest of Rome, offers high school students an exciting opportunity to enrich their language skills and deepen their relationship with the Italian culture through this 5 week summer program abroad.

Students will live with host families providing the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture and develop language skills in a way that's not possible in the classroom.

SYA Italy's curriculum takes a multidisciplinary, dual-language approach that provides students with an in-depth understanding of modern-day Italy by examining the ancient cultures from which it sprang and the contemporary challenges and opportunities that being a European Union member state entails.

Travel is a key component of th SYA Italy program. Included in the summer program are field trips to Rome where students will visit the Sistine Chapel, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Vatican Museums, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, etc. They will also become acquainted with various villages in Tuscia, the region surrounding Viterbo. There will be a longer trip to Florence, including visits to the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery (home to Michelangelo’s David), and the Boboli Gardens. The final week of the program is dedicated to Sicily’s Palermo, Monreale, Segesta, Cefalù, and an incredible experience of a No-Mafia tour with the volunteers of Addiopizzo.
