The Student Trooper Program is designed to give an opportunity to understand what jobs in law enforcement look like, what's involved in our training, and to expose those interested to the everyday demands that a career in law enforcement entails.
This program is an intensive 1-week residential learning experience held at the State Police Academy located in New Braintree. Training itself is mentally and physically demanding with a focus on discipline to prepare those who are interested in law enforcement. Vigorous physical training, including running and calisthenics, is required. Days start at 5:30 a.m. and end at 10 p.m. daily with candidates expected to be highly motivated and willing to work as teams to succeed in daily challenges.
Led by veteran trainers from the Massachusetts State Police, the curriculum involves both classroom and hands-on training in topics such as:
First Aid/CPR
Criminal Law
Officer Safety
Crime Scene Investigations
Safe Driving
Leadership
Internet Safety
Team Building
Physical Fitness
Student Troopers will also be exposed to demonstrations by specialized units of the Massachusetts State Police, such as the K9 Unit or Air Wing.
Completion of the program is designed to instill a sense of accomplishment in graduates and give valuable lessons.
