By the end of your second week, you will by flying the spinnaker and trying to win the Lucky Dog Race! And while you are having so much fun, you will also be seeing world famous landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and meeting new friends and teammates.
Boats – Teens sail on J/24 keelboats. These are the most popular boats in New York Harbor. They are fast and responsive and are the sailing equivalent of a Porsche sportscar.
Ages – The Teen Sailing Camp is open to young adults from 13 to 18 years of age.
Where We Sail – We sail in New York Harbor. Most of our sailing is from the Battery of Manhattan to the Statue of Liberty. But if conditions are right, was can sail all the way to the Verrazano or George Washington Bridges!
Meeting Location & Time – The Teen Sailing Program takes place from North Cove in Battery Park City. You need to arrive at the docks by 9 a.m. We do morning and afternoon sailing sessions and come back to the docks for lunch. The camp lets out every afternoon at 5 p.m.
Schedule – The Teen Sailing Camp runs Monday to Friday during the summer school vacation. There are 10 one-week sessions. Teens may enroll in any number of sessions.
Friday Lucky Dog Races – The exciting culmination of each week of sailing is the Lucky Dog Race on Friday! This race series is organized by Manhattan Yacht Club. The race begins at 2 p.m. and all Teen Sailing Camp boats get to participate.
