Leaders 4 Social Change (4SC) offers week-long workshops for students entering grades 5-10 on leadership, communication, decision-making, and advocacy. The workshop aims to train the next generation of civic leaders: members of a community who actively participate in society.Students can participate in any combination of workshops for a maximum of six weeks. WHY ATTEND LEADERS 4SC? Students experience Civics Education in a fun and demanding environment.
Public Speaking Students will receive practice and instruction on developing good public speaking habits and crafting a rhetorically powerful speech. Argumentative Writing: Students will work on developing a persuasive and well-reasoned editorial (op-ed style) article on a topic of interest to them. Current Events: Each week students will discuss topics directly pertains to the students, as well as, national, global, and futuristic topics. Interdisciplinary: Students will be exposed to topics in philosophy, psychology, economics, sociology, history, civics, statistics, and more!
Students may attend any combination of weeks (curriculum below):
Session 1 — Writing Focus: July 5-9 (M-F)
Session 2 — Speaking Focus: July 12-16 (M-F)
Session 3 — Writing Focus: July 19-23 (M-F)
Session 4 — Speaking Focus: July 26-30 (M-F)
Session 5 — Writing Focus: August 2-6 (M-F)
Session 6 — Speaking Focus: August 9-13 (M-F)
Live sessions will occur 11am to 3PM EDT. Staff will be available from 8am to 12am EDT
