    Overview

The Emerging Leader Program pairs your student with top university professors for personalized mentorship. The result? A standout research project that aligns with what colleges value—with the potential for a professor’s recommendation letter to enhance their application.

The Emerging Leader Program for Intellectual Vitality is a semester-long program designed to provide high school students the opportunity to engage in original research projects under the mentorship of professors from universities such as Duke, MIT, Stanford, and UPenn. With our network of 95+ professors, the program aims to cultivate academic interests, develop research skills, and boost intellectual vitality. Intellectual vitality is a highly regarded attribute for college admissions.

The Emerging Leader Program for Intellectual Vitality provides mentorship from distinguished professors to enhance intellectual vitality, secure letters of recommendation, and strategically network within colleges of interest.

    Program Duration:

    8 weeks per semester

    Weekly Commitment:

One weekly meeting with the assigned professor plus 5-10 hours of independent study per week.

    Program Components:

Research Project: Work on an original research project in a field of interest. The project can be published and/or used as supplemental material for college applications. Successful completion may lead to a letter of recommendation from the professor.

Mentorship: One-on-one mentorship with a professor from a prestigious university. Professors are matched based on the student's research interests and academic goals.

Independent Study: Students are expected to dedicate 5-10 hours per week to their research project. Independent study includes literature review, data collection, analysis, and writing.

    Testimonials (1)

    • "During my COVID-era gap year, the Emerging Leader Program was such a grounding force in my life. Working with my scholarly advisor to collect literature on equitable education reform also kickstarted the archival and polyvocal storytelling projects I have pursued in college. During our ELP advising sessions, Dr. Legatt also shared an alternative to the traditional extracurricular-packed student schedule which has stuck with me. She explained the power and impact of intentionally pursuing passion projects that cross disciplines and engaging social justice and leadership. Now, 3 years after crystallizing my passion for social justice storytelling, interdisciplinary projects and leadership during ELP, I am proud to announce that I received the Obama Foundation's Voyager Scholarship for Public Service!"
