Creative Writing Intensive - This one-week summer writing retreat provides students with individualized attention and a choice of activities to develop ?core skills in fiction, poetry, and personal narrative. ?At Hollins, we value helping students find and hone their own voices.
Horseback Riding - This equestrian camp for advanced and intermediate riders offers the opportunity to learn more about hunter/jumper riding, barn management, and the care of horses from experienced college instructors. You’ll also gain knowledge and self-confidence throughout the week.
Science Seminar - Spend a week of your summer at Hollins University in our renovated Dana Science Building. Experiment and Explore is for all budding scientists! You’ll have experience in biology, chemistry, and environmental science, along with being able to delve deeper into scientific topics that you are passionate about, including forensic science, ecology, and health science.
Theater Crafts - Join us this summer for an unforgettable adventure in theatrical costume design and prop crafting! You’ll work in small groups, alternating between costume creation and props crafting. By the end, you’ll have the skills to visualize and bring to life your costume and prop creations using sewing and crafting techniques.

I attended Hollinssummer's creative writing intensive the summer between my junior and senior year of high school and had a wonderful experience. My time there was full of crafts and activities that stimulated my brain-- I definitely grew as a writer. My favorite aspect of the camp was listening to visiting accomplished authors as they explained important aspects of their writing. That year, the time of camp overlapped with the time that children's literature graduate students were on campus so we were also fortunate enough to attend part of one of their lectures and even view some of their books for their theses. I also appreciated the broad approach to the material-- not everything we did was writing itself-- we also made a variety of collages that I am still proud of.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend the camp.
