At the Dr. Bessie F. Lawrence ISSI students work on projects alongside professionals, getting hands-on experience in one of today's cutting-edge fields of research. Choose a lab that interests you most from fields of biochemistry, biology, chemistry, mathematical and computer sciences, and physics.
The International Summer Science Institute is an intensive science program that allows students a unique opportunity to participate in the ongoing research of the Weizmann Institute, one of the world's top-ranking multidisciplinary research institutions. The program is geared toward outstanding science students who have demonstrated their interest above and beyond their high school classrooms. They are often winners of science fairs or students who have had experience in university laboratories or summer research programs.
Working within small research groups of two or three, each participant can choose a topic in accordance with his or her own interests. In their research projects, students work with electron microscopes, advanced computers, a high energy particle accelerator, lasers, and other sophisticated instruments. Senior Institute scientists supplement this intensive laboratory work with lectures and mini-courses on a variety of scientific topics. At the conclusion of the laboratory period, students present a seminar and write a report on the completed work.
