Become a Data Scientist this summer at Berkeley Coding Academy! In our live virtual program, students choose their own datasets to extract meaningful insights and make real-world predictions. BCA students code informative data visualizations in Python that are featured in portfolio projects. Students also build, train, and deploy machine learning models to navigate the world of AI. Final projects tell a data story that are permanently linked to blockchain-authenticated certificates.
Who are the BCA Team?
- Director & Founder Corey Wade is a Berkeley Unified School District credentialed educator with over 10,000 hours of classroom teaching and is a Data Science author and speaker.
- Data science students and graduates from UC Berkeley and other elite universities are cohort leads and classroom assistants.
- Researchers actively applying AI and Machine Learning to academic research and real world problems teach and advance curriculum.
What will you take away?
- Proficiency working with advanced Data Science and AI Python packages/libraries including Tensorflow, Keras, Scikit-Learn, Seaborn, Matplotlib, NumPy and Pandas.
- Ability to transform big data into a wide arrange of data visualizations including histograms, scatter plots, box plots, heat maps, and more.
- Deep knowledge on how to build, score, tune, and make predictions from machine learning models.
- Permanent access to numerous coding notebooks, slides, and video lectures covering all Data Science and AI topics covered in course.
- Final portfolio projects with professional Colab notebook and visually appealing slideshow that may be used for STEM expos, science fairs, and general applications to internships and schools.
- Blockchain-authenticated certificates that exist on Web2 and Web3 that will stand out on college applications.
- Lasting connections with other Berkeley Coding Academy students and instructors who can offer ongoing support and guidance in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
- A greater understanding of the real code behind AI and how it can shape and influence our world.
Who is our program for?
All high school and middle school students who are excited by the possibilities of AI are encouraged to join. Our curriculum is designed for both students new to coding/Python and experienced Python users. Students are divided into cohorts by age (12-14, 15-18) and experience (beginner, advanced) so that they are matched both in experience level and among peers in their age group.
What does our program look like?
Each day Berkeley Coding Academy students participate in two interactive lectures of 30+ minutes and two cohort sessions of 60 minutes. During cohort time, students may receive additional instruction and 1-1 support as they apply new skills to project development, and problem-solving notebooks. We break the day up with 15 minutes of bonus time for students to bond via various online activities. Since our program is entirely online, students can participate from anywhere with a Zoom connection.
Why choose BCA?
Berkeley Coding Academy is one of the only programs in the world with an original curriculum carefully designed and revised for teens to learn real data science, machine learning, and AI. Our small cohorts (4-8 students) ensure students receive the 1-1 instruction needed to succeed, while still providing a collaborative environment to work together to tackle challenging problems. Our dedication to student education and success is why we ranked in the Parents' Press top 5 in 2022 and continue to inspire students from around the world.
Our program is 52 contact hours over 3 weeks. We meet virtually on zoom M-F from 9:15am-12:45pm PDT, June 17-28 and July 7-12 2024 (skipping the week of July 4th).
