    Overview

Our summer courses aren’t for vacationers. They’re for students who want to become more knowledgeable about themselves and the world around them – maybe even to build your resume or material for your college essay application.

All courses include opportunities to volunteer, build life and leadership skills, learn from local cultures, and gain a new level of self-awareness, and appreciation for the world around you.

With options for students 14-18 and adults 19+, there's something for everyone at Outward Bound Costa Rica this summer.

Choose to stay with Outward Bound Costa Rica for a 15-day course or combine options to create a 2-8 week adventure. Visit our website at outwardboundcostarica.org to see all of our courses in more detail.

Our summer courses fall into three main catagories – backcountry rainforest trekking, scuba diving and surfing. Each course has other activities sprinkled in, like rappeling, whitewater rafting, canopy ziplining, community service projects, sea turtle conservation, wakeboarding and more.

This is your opportunity to step away from your daily life and reflect on what’s important to you while scuba diving the tropical waters of Panama or trekking through the lush rainforests of Costa Rica. An Outward Bound Costa Rica program is all about learning and the impact this has on the individual. For 25 years, this has been achieved through skillful people working in an inspiring and challenging environment and applying an effective process. Our OBCR Educational Model is based on years of teaching through experiential learning.

At age 19 I came to Outward Bound Costa Rica for an adventure and to get out of my comfort zone. This was one of the best decisions of my life! I joined the 5 week summer expedition program to do activities from scuba diving in the warm waters of Bocas Del Toro, Panama, sea kayaking, and service projects to hiking through the cloud forests of Costa Rica and finishing off with a week on the beach learning how to surf and getting CPR and First Aid certified. Throughout these few weeks on three different courses I learned an unimaginable amount about new cultures, points of views, group dynamics, and myself. Costa Rica Outward Bound left a lasting impression on my life and I loved the experience so much I had to come back for the Outdoor Leadership Semester!
