Whales don’t fit into classrooms and birds don’t fly in classrooms. In Islands Through Time, rising high school juniors and seniors gain college credit while learning the ecology, culture, and history of Downeast Maine, drawing and painting, and learning from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Participants will stay at the college's island field stations, visit natural marine habitats and the rocky intertidal coastline as well as gain firsthand experience in data collection and research.
Students will have the opportunity to work with faculty in art, biology, and law as well as with Acadia National Park Service professionals to expose you to various aspects of park management and day-to-day challenges of implementing the “national park idea.”
Successful completion of the program will make students who apply and are accepted to the College of the Atlantic eligible for a $10,000/year scholarship should they ultimately choose to matriculate as a degree candidate.
