The Central Connecticut State University Pre-Collegiate and Access Services Department's mission is to provide a diverse population of first generation and low income students access into higher education by preparing them to meet high academic, personal, and social standards through the TRiO program.

College Readiness Programs (CRP) are responsible for the development and administration of all college preparatory programs and community outreach. College Readiness Programs will provide college exposure and monitor student progress in grades 6-12. The CRP Office will coordinate the relationships between the programs of CCSU and the surrounding community for the purpose of enhancing the academic programs between the two entities. CRP is here to develop new opportunities and skill sets for middle and high school students who want to earn a college degree. Prior to applying for a college readiness program or at any time during the application process, we appreciate your contact by phone, letter, email, or personal visit.

Additionally, the TRiO programs are federal outreach programs designed to identify and provide services to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRiO serves and assists low-income, first-generation college students, and/or individuals with disabilities as they progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to baccalaureate programs. Central Connecticut State University is now home to two pre-college TRiO Programs: Educational Talent Search (ETS), and Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS)

    Applicable TRiO Programs

    Educational Talent Search

    What is Talent Search?

Educational Talent Search (ETS) at Central Connecticut State University is a federally funded, early intervention TRiO program. ETS offers support and guidance for students to complete high school and pursue a college education. The program identifies and assists 500 students in grades 6-12, who are enrolled in the Consolidated School District of New Britain. TRiO ETS students must be from populations traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education (i.e. first generation potential college and low-income students).

Upward Bound Math & ScienceWhat is Upward Bound Math & Science?

Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) is a rigorous program for students of New Britain High School (grades 9-12) interested in pursuing a career in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM). These students are required to maintain high academic standing with an average 3.00 GPA. UBMS serves 60 high school students from low-income families, high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree, and/or classify as low-income, and first-generation military veterans preparing to enter post-secondary education.

In addition to counseling and tutoring, students receive information about college admissions requirements, scholarships, and various student financial aid programs. We provide services that assist students in graduating from high school and enrolling in the college or university of their choice. This concentrated effort helps young people to better understand their educational opportunities and career options.
